What Sleep Can Do For Your Skin

In these times, having enough rest at night is difficult for people who are focused at work and those who are too stressed to even get a power nap.

However sleep can actually offer more benefits than one might care to know.

In fact, sleeping for a good number of hours is the body's natural way of recuperation. After a stressful day at work, sleep takes off worries from the mind and tension from the body. This gives us an energized, revitalized feeling when we get up.

When the body is at rest, our skin cells are at their busiest doing the repair work. At best, collagen, the protein that holds the skin and other tissues together, is produced when we're asleep. Simply put, sleep helps us keep our skin young and supple.

On reverse, the lack of sleep can take its toll on people's health and can manifest on how our skin looks, especially the face:

a) deep-set lines in between the eyebrows or at the edge of the eyes,

b) red, puffy eyes and eye bags

c) overly oily face prone to irritation and acne stimulation

This is why there are skin care products which are best applied at night when the skin can easily absorb them. This is true for anti-aging products and vitamin C-based serums which are both sensitive to sunlight or UV rays.

As for acne problems, keeping the face clean is the best way to avoid pimples and other impurities. Apart from getting enough rest, people should make it a habit to wash the face in the morning and at night before going to bed.

Sleeping can do wonders for your skin. To maintain a healthy glowing skin, getting enough rest is one of the natural ways to achieve it.

However, other skin problems such as skin aging and hyperpigmentation may require more than proper sleep or right diet to correct. Get the best recommendation from your dermatologist before getting a skin-care package.
